This month we were joined by Mel Grime — Registered Holistic Nutritionist, burnout coach, and yoga teacher — for an honest conversation about what happens when stress quietly piles up in our lives, how it tangles with our hormones, and how to gently step out of that cycle.
Mel reframed self-care as self-support — not the occasional bubble bath, but the small, supportive moments we sprinkle throughout an ordinary day. Because the little things, done often, become the big changes.
Mel’s five tools for supporting yourself:
- A body check-in — What do I feel? Where do I feel it? What do I need right now?
- Your breath — a conscious inhale, then a longer exhale (try inhaling for 4, exhaling for 6+).
- Catch yourself — notice the autopilot phrases: “I’m fine,” “I’ll just do it,” or saying yes when you mean no.
- Ask a better question — swap “How do I get through this day?” for “What would be supportive today?”
- Protect one non-negotiable — sleep, a walk, a bit of quiet — one thing that’s just for you.
A gift from Mel: She put together a lovely resource called Coming Home to help you carry this work forward. Consider it her parting present to you.
